Career Development Resources
The Center for Teaching shares Vanderbilt University’s commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. We honor this commitment by promoting teaching and learning as ongoing and collaborative processes of inquiry, experimentation, and reflection. Our programs and services are available to the entire university’s teaching community, including full-time and part-time faculty, teaching assistants, post-doctoral fellows, and anyone else involved in the instructional process at Vanderbilt.
The purpose of the Certificate in College Teaching is to assist graduate students and post doctoral fellows who wish to gain a clearer, deeper, more active approach to teaching and learning in higher education. The certificate focuses on the research on how people learn and best teaching practices, and supports the university’s pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning. The certificate is ideal for graduate students whose goals are to become more effective educators and who want to prepare for future careers in higher education teaching.
This web guide is designed as a resource for graduate students as they prepare for careers in the professoriate. These materials highlight the wide range of faculty roles and responsibilities in three areas of focus: teaching and learning, professional development, and the world of the university. This division is based on the framework of a program formerly hosted by the Center for Teaching and the Graduate School, the Future Faculty Preparation Program (F2P2). The suggested activities and resources presented are offered to help you recognize, organize, and address your professional development needs in preparation for a faculty career.
Many of the resources listed on this page are provided by members of the Graduate Development Network (GDN) Collaborative, an informal network of faculty, administrators, and students at Vanderbilt that seeks to facilitate the awareness and use of the many programs that can help graduate students become productive and well-rounded scholars.
The Center for Student Professional Development will help students effectively develop their professional capabilities, define their identities, and build resilience as they prepare for employment in a rapidly changing world.
