“The only journey is the one within.”
Dr. Tamiika Hurst is a Detroit Native. Trained as a Bio-Analytical Chemist, under the mentorship of Dr. Carol Fierke at The University of Michigan, her graduate work led to the optimization of the Carbonic Anhydrase-based biosensor which was, for the first time, used to probe the regulatory mechanisms of metal ions in cells. Following graduation in 2010, Tamiika moved to Cincinnati to pursue a career with The Procter & Gamble Company. Here she championed and led the first Pet Care cross-functional method development platform. The success of this work enabled the development of empirical models for predicting and measuring survival patterns of Probiotics in pet food-a huge win for the industry.
In 2014, Tamiika transitioned to academia, which she will admit is her first love. Adjunct Chemistry Professor at Cincinnati State Technical and Community and at the University of Cincinnati, she is wholistic in her approach-helping students unlock their gifts and passions-to create the career in science that they have always wanted.
Proudly, Tamiika recently incorporated an Education Management Firm-Academic Innerprizes, LLC! To provide a variety of in-house and web-based services, the firm’s mentor-based learning model keeps the student first. Tamiika is committed to STEM-U-late the next generation of leaders.
Tamiika’s hobbies include fitness training, community outreach and reading
