Stephen Leonard is an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department at Indiana Wesleyan University, a primarily undergraduate institution. Professor Leonard is the Primary Investigator of a chemical biology lab interested in 1) developing chemical-genetic techniques to selectively and potently inhibit protein tyrosine phosphatases and 2) training undergraduate researchers. Dr. Leonard is also co-director of a NSF S-STEM award to increase the number of scholars entering the STEM workforce.
Prior to joining IWU in 2014, Dr. Leonard was a Ruth L Kirchstein Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington in the lab of Dr. Dustin Maly. He earned a Ph.D. in Chemical Biology from the University of Michigan in the lab of Dr. Kate Carrol and a B.S. from Indiana Wesleyan University.
